ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION ! WHAT'S YOUR TAKE ON THIS ISSUE

ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION.  SHOULD THEY STAY OR SHOULD THEY GO!

Hello to my fellow Americans and others.  I know that this topic is very controversial and stirs up a lot of emotional response.  Not only am I the friend and co-worker of people who's'  origin is not from this country; I have very close friends who's parents I hold dear to my heart who came here as immigrants.  However I do think that this situation is getting out of control.  This country is very divided on this issue so I did some research and would like to share with you how I feel about the situation.  Hopefully you will do the same and we can all learn something.
Diversity of our country is an advantage in global competition.  There are people who have gone through great risk and hardship to get to this country.  All in the hope of making a better life for themselves and the family that they provide for.  Some of you come from these families.
One of the things that amazes me is that people who are against letting immigrants in ignore one fact.  The United States has been one of the most successful countries when it comes to the assimilation of immigrants.
We have muslim immigrants who hate AL-QUEDA and Osama Bin Ladin.  Mexican Americans who work hard and speak better english than some Americans.  Legal and illegal immigrants have built this country.
A constant flow of immigrants has made this country what it is.  There are great immigrants like Albert Einstein who many consider to  be one of the greatest physicist  ever.  Great sports players like Hakeem Olajuwon, or great Americans like Supreme court justice Felix Frankfurter from Austria.
There are even people in our military that are not yet citizens.

"Immigrants help build and defend this country.  Being an American is not a matter of blood or birth right,  It's a matter of faith.  It's a matter of fidelity to the shared values that we all hold so dear" - Barack Obama

HOWEVER!

WE MUST DO A BETTER JOB TO ENFORCE LAWS AND PROTECT OUR BORDERS!!!!!

We should control our borders more rigorously so that we can get a better grip on how to regulate residency and citizenship.  People who come here illegally should be held to some form of accountability.  Government needs to take on more responsibilities and a leadership role when it comes to protecting our borders.  If we can have 140,000 troops in Iraq as we speak we should have that many protecting our borders.
If you are going to come to this country you must do so within the bounds of the law.  If you are here illegally you should be allowed to come forward, be fined pay back taxes and be allowed to learn english, history and earn your citizenship.
We need to do a better job of not only tracking who comes in this country, but who overstays their visas.   The Arizona laws present the potential of individuals having their civil rights continually violated.  Racial profiling is a very dangerous game and unless you have fallen victim of it you probably say whats the big deal.  I myself have had to deal with it in many situations and my family has been here forever.

GOV. Jan Brewer (R)
This governor  has tried to pass laws that requires police to ask for the paperwork of anyone who looks like an illegal immigrant.  Six months in jail and a 500 $ fine if you don't have proper ID even if you are a citizen.   I don't know about you but this sounds a little RIDICULOUS !!!

I KNOW WHAT THE PROBLEM IS!
1. The right refuses to have a civl way for people who are hear illegally to become legal.
2. The left are unwilling to get serious about enforcing the laws and fine tax or incarcerate
    major violators of our laws.

If you are here already and you work hard and obey the laws you should be allowed to work towards citizenship.  If you don't obey the laws and or you are a business that hires illegals you should be punished to the full extent of the law.

Well thats how STUDD feels about it Let me know how you feel and don't forget to vote in the poll

PEACE AND GOD BLESS AND GUIDE>

From my experience in working with children who are illegal aliens who have come into this country one way or another, unaccompanied by an adult, you will rarely find someone (an adult) come forward and say that their family is here illegal...ly for FEAR of being deported even though in circumstances which I work, we are just looking for sponsorship for the child we need to place. It is a very sad situation that someone has to live in so much fear. But the children I work with would rather face that fear than that of living in their home country under the circumstance in which they were raised. Sorry about the long windedness. I am passionate about this.

Well, I must begin by thanking you for inviting me to join in on this conversation. I am about to start a blog myself in order to complete a Directed Independent Study for my Master's program, and am very excited at the possibility of engaging in substantive dialogue. I am pursuing my degree in Political Science, so you know this forum is all too exciting for me.
To begin, I found your comments both enlightening and open-minded. You spoke to both the errors of policies designed to exclude those who hope to gain legal entry into our country, and exposed the flaws of our current administration, when it comes to issues of immigration reform. Oftentimes, people fall into the trap of making immigration a partisan issue, when in fact, it is a human issue.
I am in the education field, and I have had numerous students whose parents are not legal immigrants. Those cases tug at metaphorical heartstrings in my case, but when it comes down to it, immigration cannot be handled as a knee-jerk issue, any more than it can be ignored and swept under the rug.
Yes, policies need to be put into place that are based on comprehensive reform structures and are ALSO designed to facilitate and honor the culture and history of this country. In addition, these policies need to be fluid and take into account the changing face of the demographic of the world. We are all different, and unless we embrace our differences and use them to our collective advantage, we are doomed in ways I will refrain from detailing.
While I am versed in the history of this country and the fact that it is full of stories of immigration and those looking for a "better life", I tend to see the immigration story through whimsical lenses. I see the struggle as one between good and evil, and not one with a right and wrong answer. Do I know what the law should be regarding those who come to our country? Do I know the intricacies of the 14th amendment and whether or not it should be overturned? Do I know whether or not the police officers in Arizona are battling with the morals surrounding the "Papers, please" law? No.
All I know is that this is an issue with human collateral, and this fact alone should guide our sensibilities, instead of political expedience and partisan platforms.
sorry...promise I won't be so long-winded in the future,,,you got me on an interesting night. Congrats on the blog.

I sometimes have mixed feelings about the illegal immigrant issue. My main position is that this country is supposed to be open to immigration; that message is on a plaque at the foot of the Statue of Liberty in New York Harbor.
People should have no problems coming here and settling in as long as they play by the rules. Anyone who wants to come should go about it the correct way and not try to beat the system. It is this fact that bothers me when individuals come here under the radar and cause us taxpayers monies that could be better spent elsewhere. It is also a problem when those that are here by right are undercut for certain jobs because of the cheap labor force that illegals provide. Bottom line for me is that if you want in; do it right and learn how things are done here and not ask us do assimilate to how thing are done where you came from.

Ok, so I have no problem with people from other countries coming here. It is what we stand for. The pursuit of happiness should not just be limited to Americans. According to this countries fore fathers...it is a human's unalienable right...life and liberty and all that jazz. However, you can't just do what you want and pimp out the system...tax payers money...and the opportunities over here. The opportunities are for citizens and those who have done the right thing and either got some kind of a visa for education or work or permanent residency. I agree...the gov't should enforce citizenship. I think it's silly how out of control this situation has gotten. You can't even enjoy a simple movie without a ticket...why, if you plan to stay in a country...or if you plan to just visit...you should you not have to do so by that countries rules and regulations?

Rolda, nobody could've put it into better words. This world is full of nomadics; most don't believe in borders, boundaries, and parameters when it comes to migrating in the pursue of happiness. And it is admirable to actually up and go, and seek different horizons far from what one knows. Bottom line this is a bystander filled issue, no one matters but the Right or the Left and it is saddening to have to sit there and watch them igonore the real face of it, the sensitive human face.
Philosophy aside, all illegal immigrants should have the opportunity to come forward, be reviewed and given a true opportunity to be a good, community enhancing tax payer. It's not nearly humane to throw immigrants out of the country and demean their lives because U.S. CBP is bluntly flawed. As a country, U.S and its population learned that they need to tighten up their borders and figure out reforms...humane reforms. As for the immigrants, who ARE also part of this country, they need to adhere to the rule book and, again, add to the growth of the country and not weight on it.
